Our Neighborhood

Checkout our neighborhood an article writen by Margaret

Let's try it again

Well with a fair amount of timing passing. A wedding, another move and two cats later here we are still in Singapore! John is onto grad school and Margaret is onto hand craft brews! We are also now equipped with smart phones a bit behind the curve, but none less here we are ready to snap shoot and share. This time around we will try with a bit of narrative a bit of wikkipedia :)
September has begun we have left the hungry ghost and into the mid-autumn festival we have been giving and receiving booth classic and modern mooncakes. For the first time since arriving in Singapore Margaret is working for a true Singaporean company and has been lucky enough to be on the client side and thus receiving mooncakes. Quite frankly, maybe the best part about mooncakes is the box. Mooncakes are big business and the box plus delivery add to the extravagance

Over the last year and half we have both discovered the uniqueness and freshness of wetmarkets in Singapore.. The market with walking distance is very Chinese meaning no lamb and lost of Mandarin spoken. It is clean and run by lot of old timers and middle aged fish mongers - the women tend to be kinder and the fish mongers gruff. Tekka market is two metro stops away (15 minutes) this market is much bigger than our local market and if you can't find it at Tekka I don't know where you can find it from Thai to sweet potatos to kampong eggs to fresh meats and fish. Fresh delish, cheap and good!
